Situation

Quayside supplies windsurfing equipment and accessories nationally through mail order. Their initial foray into selling via the web did not meet with the sales levels that would have been expected from the success of the mail order business. O2 Creative were asked to investigate and develop a new site.

Analysis of the site indicated a poor user experience and lack of focus for the site. Difficulties of updating meant that information was not current. A basic pay per click campaign was conducted but the site was not optimised for search engines.

Action

O2 Creative redesigned the site and navigation, built a user-friendly shopping system around our own e-commerce engine and optimised the site for search engines.

New content, including tutorials, videos and blogs, were introduced to capitalise on Quayside's extensive knowledge, give an informed impression and attract search enquiries. Linking the shopping system to telephone sales staff reduced lost sales.

Results

The first order was taken within three hours of going live in December 2007. By the end of the first week, turnover was running at double the previous rate. After six months, orders values were four times that of the old site and remain consistently high.

The site was also runner up in the Creative East Awards for Best Web Design 2007.
